Used Rizzini Round Body 20 Bore Two barrel set

A Battista Rizzini Round Body, custom-built or commissioned specifically for the prestigious London gunmaker J. Roberts & Son.

Key Characteristics & Origins

• The Collaboration: J. Roberts & Son (managed by Paul Roberts, formerly of John Rigby & Co.) has a long-standing history of partnering with high-end Italian masters like Battista Rizzini to build custom, bespoke "London-specification" field guns.

• The Engraver: The small engraving next to the trigger guard, "E. Bosio," represents the master Italian engraver who hand-finished or signed off on the action. High-grade Italian guns are heavily valued based on the pedigree of their individual engravers.

• Two-Barrel Set: Having a two-barrel configuration—a 26.5-inch multi-choke barrel (ideal for fast-handling, close-range shooting or woodcock/quail) alongside a 30-inch multi-choke barrel (perfect for high pheasants or clay disciplines)—significantly drives up the versatility and collector value.

Being a 20-bore drastically elevates the desirability of this specific Rizzini Round Body. In the premium field-gun market, a scaled, dedicated 20-bore frame is highly prized over a standard 12-bore because it provides a much slimmer, faster-handling, and elegant profile that perfectly complements the "round body" action design.

A 20-bore "London-pattern" two-barrel set from this era represents an absolute peak configuration for a modern game gun. The 26.5-inch barrels are superb for tightly wooded cover or walked-up grouse, while the 30-inch barrels offer the exact swing dynamics needed for modern, high-driven pheasants. Because J. Roberts & Son builds these specifically to match classic British stock dimensions and handling characteristics, they are widely considered "sleeper" alternatives to far more expensive English bespoke guns.
